About Austin Lake

Austin Lake is in Portage, Kalamazoo County — a little over an hour east of our dock in St. Joseph. It's an all-sports lake of about 1,100 acres, large enough for water skiing and tubing without crowding the calmer coves where families anchor for swimming.
Fishing is steady year-round. Largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, northern pike, and walleye are the regulars. The deeper basins on the south end hold the bigger fish, and the weed lines along the west shore fish well in the morning.
The lake has a public launch on the west side off Lakeview Drive. We deliver pontoons to private docks anywhere on Austin and route from the closest launch when shore access isn't an option. Portage has the usual conveniences — gas, groceries, food — five minutes off the lake, which makes it an easy day trip if you're staying near Kalamazoo.
