About Lake of The Woods
What people use Lake of The Woods for.
Lake of the Woods is in eastern Van Buren County, in Decatur Township. It's a mid-sized inland lake of around 260 acres with a public access point on the south end and a residential cottage community around the rest of the shoreline.
Largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and northern pike are the common catches. The weed beds along the shallower stretches fish well for bass and panfish, and the deeper basins give the bigger fish somewhere to sit through summer. Ice fishing is steady through the winter.
For day rentals, Lake of the Woods works well for a calmer day on the water — a pontoon cruise, kayaks, or paddleboards. There's enough open water for some tubing, but it's not really the lake for water skiing. We deliver pontoons to private docks on Lake of the Woods and route from the launch when shore access isn't available.
