About Round Lake

What people use Round Lake for.

Round Lake is one of the smaller Sister Lakes — about 200 acres, in Cass County near Dowagiac. The shape is more or less circular, the water is clear, and the cottage shoreline keeps it feeling more like a neighborhood than a tourist lake.

It's a good lake for first-time boaters. The water stays calm most of the day, the lake is small enough that you can see across it, and the public access points are well-marked. Kayaks, paddleboards, and pontoon cruises all work well. There's still room for tubing and wakeboarding in the open middle — just not on a busy summer afternoon.

For anglers, Round Lake holds largemouth bass, bluegill, and northern pike. Mornings and evenings fish best. The shallows along the shoreline are productive for panfish and a good place to take kids who are learning to cast.

Round connects loosely to the rest of the Sister Lakes chain, so if you're staying in the area for a few days you can tour the cluster — Dewey, Magician, the Crooked Lakes — without changing rental docks. Dowagiac is a short drive for food and supplies.
