About Saddlebag Lake
Saddlebag Lake is in southwestern Allegan County, near the village of Pullman. The name describes the shape — two connected basins joined by a narrow channel, like a pair of saddlebags. It's a quiet inland lake with a mostly residential shoreline.
Largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and northern pike are the common catches. The two-basin shape gives the lake good structure for fishing — the weed lines along the channel between basins fish well for bass, and the deeper sections hold pike. Ice fishing is steady through the winter.
For day rentals, Saddlebag is a calm-water lake — pontoon cruising, kayaks, paddleboards, and some tubing in the open stretches of either basin. We deliver pontoons to private docks. The drive from St. Joseph runs about an hour, so it's typically a longer day or weekend rental.
