About Gun Lake
What people use Gun Lake for.
Gun Lake straddles the Allegan and Barry county line, north of Plainwell. It's the largest lake we serve outside the Sister Lakes cluster — around 2,680 acres of all-sports water, with Yankee Springs State Recreation Area along the east shore and a state-run public launch.
The size means there's room for everything. Pontoons, ski boats, jet skis, and sailboats all share the lake without crowding, and the long shoreline gives plenty of quiet coves for kayaks and paddleboards. The state-park beach is a popular swimming stop.
For fishing, Gun holds largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, bluegill, and crappie. The weed lines along the south shore fish well for bass; walleye sit in the deeper basins early and late in the day.
We deliver pontoons to private docks on Gun. The drive from St. Joseph runs about an hour and a half, so most renters here book a weekend.
